SARAJEVO LJUBAVI MOJA
Sarajevo is a city located in the valley and surrounded by mountain ranges from all sides. The Miljacka River divides it into two unequal parts and the city expands from its shores. Therefore, the journey through Sarajevo is best taken down the river for which many people say there is no smaller river with a larger number of bridges to cross it.
The city of Sarajevo is surrounded by four Olympic mountains of Trebević, Jahorina, Igman, Bjelašnica, as well as Treskavica and Romanija which is famous for it’s rare natural beauty. “Excuse me for saying Mrs. Europe, but you don’t have historical monuments. The Incas in America have monuments. Egypt has the real cultural
monuments. Excuse me for saying Mrs. Europe, but only Bosnia has monuments, stećak tombstones. What is a stećak? The epitome of a highlander, a Bosnian! What is a Bosnian doing on stećak? He stands tall! Head held high, with a raised arm! But
nowhere did anyone ever find a stećak showing a Bosnian kneeling or begging, showing him as a slave.”
(Miroslav Krleža, 1960)
Trebevic – the most beautiful view of the city
Due to its peculiar vegetation, it once had the status of a national park. On the way there, you can stop by the Vraca Park or the amusement park Sunnyland with adrenaline alpine roller- coaster as its main attraction. Central part of Trebević, surrounded by forest vegetation of conifers and a source of drinking water. Sports and recreation centre Brus is some three kilometres away from Napretkov Dom, at 500 meters below the top of Trebeveć. Hiking lovers are recommended a two-hour climb to the top of Trebević along a well-marked trail through a forest of spruce and pine overlooking Mt. Romanija and Bukovik. At the top you will find a breath-taking view of Sarajevo, small towns and villages nearby and stunning mountain ranges. Trebević was once reachable by cable car from the neighbourhood of Bistrik. The cable car is currently not in operation, and it used to be a special attraction and an essential part of Sarajevo’s image. The ride took 12 minutes.
Restaurant Vidikovac was located next to the cable car, offering a spectacular view of the city. In its vicinity, for luge and bobsled competitions during the 14 th Sarajevo Winter Olympic Games in 1984, bobsleigh track was built, at the time one of the most modern ones in Europe.
